| Scope of Practice: | Dr. Kaufman is Board certified in Internal medicine and has fellowship Board certification in Neuromusculoskeletal medicine and
Osteopathic Manipulative medicine (NMM/OMM). NMM is a science based on the anatomy and physiology of the human body which addresses the health and function of patients.
OMM is the use of different “hands-on” manual techniques to enhance and restore the bodies own process of healing. Because of the connection the musculoskeletal
system (muscles, bones, tendons, connective tissue, joints) has with the visceral system (heart, lungs, stomach and other organs), Dr. Kaufman is able to use OMM
to affect the overall health of his patients, even when the problem is on “the inside.” Additionally, Dr. Kaufman will use joint and trigger point injections to
assist in the healing.
After his fellowship Dr. Kaufman worked as a hospital medicine specialist in New York before coming to practice medicine in Sanford and still enjoys hospital medicine.
He also offers the full spectrum of services in General Internal medicine such as: Adult preventative medicine, diabetes, hypertension and cholesterol management, heart
disease, respiratory disease, and all conditions encountered in general internal medicine.
Dr. Kaufman believes in treating patients not diseases and uses a “whole body” approach to the care of his patients. He believes in the relationship between “structure and
function” and uses his skills in OMM to benefit his patients.
